Crafts

With the thousands of readers I have and the great demand to produce more fodder to read, I have resigned myself to authoring yet another post.

Today I will discuss crafts.

My Progress in Sewing a Skirt
I am making an attempt to sew a skirt.  To date, I have read the instructions and pulled out the pattern.  This is all very confusing to me; the instructions are four, large, square pages, but the patterns is but TWO cutouts!  Now what?!  I am amazed that anyone can do this and begin understand it all.  One looks at a skirt and thinks that perhaps it is a modified tube, but there is more to it.  There is an art to making a seam.  An art to fitting the pattern.  To cutting fabric, and even to understanding how fabric is made.

My personal art is knitting.  It was my first love.  As such, I have much greater faculty with understanding the language and the aims of knitting.  I am familiar with the movement of a pattern and with how to correct errors.  In many ways, that is the joy of all crafts - being immersed in the language and culture or creating something.  I still find it truly magical to knit a row of stitches on my needle and watch it eventually morph into a blanket, a hat, or a scarf.

I look forward to learning more about how to sew and how to not be frustrated with my complete lack of knowledge of the subject.  There is no other way to know than to dive in!
